The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers launched a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features several key adjustments:
- Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for gamers looking for alternative methods to enjoy the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 players are upset.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and another details all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback
Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. So this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them halfway, according to forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?
Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
