The United Kingdom is ready to advance with using the total value of frozen Russia's funds to bolster the Ukrainian war effort, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has stated.

In a collective announcement, the leaders of the UK, the French Republic, and Germany emphasized that this unified step would increase strain on Russian President Vladimir Putin and persuade Russia to engage in negotiations.

They clarified that the decision would be carried out in strong partnership with the America.

United Kingdom restrictions have immobilized more than £25bn of Russia's resources since Moscow initiated its widespread offensive against Ukraine in 2022. However, up to this point, money sent to Ukraine using Russian holdings had only been drawn from gains and dividends accrued on them.

Sir Keir assured President Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany were united in their desire to advance efforts toward using the full value of the seized Russia's state assets to halt hostilities.

He stated that more sanctions in the coming days and weeks would increase the strain on the Russian government.

This announcement comes after European officials convened in the Danish capital last week to consider using frozen Russian assets for a 140-billion-euro loan to Ukraine.

In the previous month, American leader Donald Trump called on international partners to seize or otherwise use frozen Russian assets, based on news outlets.

The total of immobilized Russian holdings in the EU is estimated to be almost €211bn.
